Gambian girls on their way home from school
I spent more than seven years living outside the United States…in Europe, The Middle East, Africa, and The Caribbean. In my travels, I visited six continents and over 50 countries. Most of my time abroad occurred during a 20 year window between 1967 and 1986. Plus some months in Peru when I was adopting Michael in 1991.
Thus, many of the photos I took are old now and not in prime condition. Many are scans of rather degraded 35mm slides. Amazing that we thought they would be the best preserved and most versatile at the time. Of course, at the time we didn’t know we’d be able to scan actual photos…which tend to be in much better condition. But it doesn’t really matter as the images add dimension by visually sharing a moment of experience along with the written stories.
